Considering purchasing for conference calls, November 13, 2013

While I will surely use these for listening to music and flying, my main motivation for buying these was for use on conference calls.

I have an office within my customers headquarters which makes it hard to take conference calls on a speaker phone (and I consider closing my door for what can be put to 2 hours, rather rude). It isn’t fun holding a phone that long either. I tried an in ear Bluetooth device, my Bose sports ear buds and my Denon wireless noise canceling headset and I had great difficulty hearing what what was being said. I get a lot visitors in my office and there is the ambient noise of a train repair shop in the background. On the other end some people speak too quietly, and many others have accents, either way I miss a lot of what is being said.

I tried these headphones in a Bose store about 8 months ago, but walked away due to the price. However after the constant struggle of trying to hear during these calls (quite a few per week) I figured my being able to hear outweighed the price, so I took the plunge.

I used them today and it was incredible! I heard everyone and they heard me! My only small complaint is that when I spoke my voice was muffled to me so I may have been speaking louder then necessary. I’ll get used to it. They were very comfortable, even wearing earrings. Sure the people around me thought I was listening to music and ribbing me, but with the phone on mute I was able to explain.

In addition the case is great for keeping them secure (though it smells a bit funky….) and protected. Some smart marketing person at Bose came up with an idea to put information cards in the case to give to people who ask you about them – very savvy.

I hope to get years of service from this headset!

Bose beats Beats, January 15, 2014

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones – Limited Edition (Discontinued by Manufacturer) (Electronics)
Having purchased several sets of headphones over the years it is clear (to me) that Bose is at the top of the line concerning sound clarity, comfort and quality of construction. I purchased a set of Beats by Dre for my son and have to admit they sounded pretty good at first because of the increased bass, however if you want to listen to Steely Dan or similar quality music, drop the Beats and put on the Bose. Where Beats are flashy and cool to look at and Bose look like you borrowed them from your dad… Bose beats Beats in every category. Don’t be fooled by the flash and popularity of Beats that are not made very well and may have to replace the cord (twice so far).

Best endorsement yet… a young man sitting next to me on a flight with his Beats looked at me sympathetically as I pulled my Bose NC headphones out of the case. “You ever tried Bose headphones?” I asked. His sympathy seemed to turn to scorn as if I had offended him. “No man, Beats by Dre are the best!” was his reply. I asked if I could try his Beats and he could try out the Bose. Pleasant yet reluctant he agreed. His facial expression was a mixture of awe and puzzlement. I could tell he really liked the sound, but was conflicted because he was loyal to the Beats. He said the Bose were a lot more comfortable and not heavy on his head. He took them off a few times to look at them and put them back on. I have to admit I looked pretty cool wearing is Beats.

Here’s the endorsement, after almost an hour I had to ask him to switch our headphones back. He was compliant, but seemed disappointed. Fortunately Bose supplies information cards with their headphones that you can give to people when they inquire about Bose. I gave him one of the cards, but it appeared he would have preferred to have made our “headphone exchange” at the beginning of the flight permanent. I hope he gets a good price when he sells his Beats on eBay.

Simply the best; the gold standard for noise reduction., November 10, 2013

These headphones are great for traveling. And when I say great, what I mean is that I just got a plaque for flying 1,000,000 miles on United. I would say about 85% of those miles have been with these headphones on. My most recent trip was 17 hours from Argentina to San Francisco, and wore these the whole way. So I have a lot of experience with wearing them on planes.

The noise cancellation literally gives you energy. When you are not wearing headphones, or wearing something less than these, you will get fatigue from the white noise of the engine and wind. With Bose QC15s, you will feel invigorated.

Sound is great. As others have mentioned, the sound is very good, but it’s slightly bass-heavy. That’s just a signature Bose sound response curve. Not everyone likes it, including me (I had a bose radio on my last car), but it’s so worth it to get the noise cancellation.

Durability. Bose has an excellent warranty for non-replaceable parts, but for replaceable parts including the ear pads ($30) and the cord ($30), they won’t replace them.. unless you sweet talk the sales person. Both of these recently failed for me — the ear pads have a soft leather-like coating that started flaking, and the cord started failing. Well I went and convinced the salesperson to give me free replacements. Then I liked the limited edition headphones so much, I bought another pair!

I have tried other noise canceling headphones, and let me tell you it just isn’t worth it. There may be others on the market now that are good, since to be honest I haven’t done a survey in the last few years. But just get on a plane and look around the first class cabin — it’s obvious that Bose QC15s are the gold standard, and there’s a reason why all the business travelers are wearing them. They’re the best.
